What is the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy?

If you haven't heard already, It has been predicted that December 21, 2012 will be the end of our world as we know it. There is a great deal of speculation going on around the world about what might happen on 21.12.2012. According to the mayan 2012 doomsday prophecy this could be the day that everything changes? There are those who doubt, and those who believe, in the possibility that the world will end in just two short years from now. There are many who thumb their nose and say this is just hype, but what if they are wrong?

Who Were The Mayans?

The Mayans existed for thousands of years and were around two thousand years before Christ. In their time. they were amonst the most advanced people in the world and understood many abstract concepts long before other civilizations did.

They were also astronomers and had a phenomenal understanding of the movement of the stars. So great was their understanding, they were able to predict star postions thousands of years in advance. This enabled them to develop a calendar system based on the stars movement that they would go on to use to regulate their lives. With their system of the stars movement they were able to accurately measure the length of a year by the sun. This they done to a far higher accuracy than any European civilization.

The Mayans were in fact able to perform calculations into the millions, making them mathematical geniuses. Some calculations in fact that very few could perform even today without the help of computers.

Quiet unbelieveable to think they were able to achieve all this without the assistance of any of the technological advancements we have available today. The Mayans clearly had knowledge far beyond any other civilization around at that time and although this doesn't prove that their prophecy will become fact, it does make it hard to dismiss out of hand.

So What Could Happen On 21/12/2012?

It would seem that one thing isn't in too much dispute, In 2012... something will happen.

Aaaah... that's the issue in dispute. That's the issue that is causing all the debate.
Scholars seem to agree that the year 2012 was a significant one for the Mayans - but not necessarily relating to the end of the world, but as the end of a cycle. There are inscriptions and texts in which the Mayans made other predictions that would take place after 2012, therefore implying that they believed the world would continue after that date.
So is it some sort of natural disaster like earthquake, tsunami, volcano or meteor strike or maybe man-made such as nuclear war.
Well I have to say none of the above sound like much fun and all have major consequences attached to them and all would have major effects on the world population, but looking on the positive side all of the above would leave the possibility of mankind living on in some shape or form.

The Mayan Calendar predicted a change of consciousness from left-brain thinking to right-brain thinking (Logical to Intuitive). This is the major change that some are reading the Mayan calendar was or is predicting, but something has to happen to trigger that change of consciousness.

As the year 2012 draws ever closer , the media is sure to blow the trumpets of alarm. I remember the panic button being pressed with the approach of the year 2000, Do you remember the Y2K frenzy?

The possibility for a total breakdown of civilization hung on mankinds ability to reprogram all the computers of the world to accept four simple digits - 2000. Well, doesn't sound impossible in this day and age, does it? and guess what? it wasn't and planet earth and mankind survived. Is this new threat of the same kind? Can we fix it?

Well this is different. Different because it doesn't pertain to man-made substance or any form of hold in your hand information. It is the product of prophecy and of translation. It is different because it threatens not only our lifestyle, but life itself.

If it is the advent of new consciousness, then it may only threaten our style of life, our day-to-day comings and goings, our family relationships. It may threaten our political behaviour and our international behaviour. I say threaten since a new consciousness implies a new manner of thinking, an ascension of sorts. It implies change from the way we are at present. Change is always seen as a threat to us.

If it's Doomsday that we face, then surely it jeopardises life itself. Those that see this future event as catastrophic, see it as a worldwide event. They see it as an event that will shake the Earth, one that will affect all of humankind. That is for certain change. Could it be an event of annihilation, one that eliminates humanity? Some find such a prediction to represent an insult to the Divine. However, believers of numerous faiths and non-believers, as well, hold that somber belief in Armageddon.

The specific date that is the focal point of this prophecy is December 21, 2012, the winter solstice. That year will be a leap year. In the United States, it is also a presidential election year. There will be a summer Olympic Games in London. In that year, American military presence in the Republic of Korea will cease.

Focus on December21 stems from the interpretation of the Mayan calendar. On that day, the Mayan calendar records the end of what the Mayans call the long cycle. It is the 13th long cycle since the commencement of creation according to Mayan history.

Before we disregard, these predictions of a new consciousness or absolute devastation we had better observe that there are notable and esteemed men of science that are doing serious research and study of the Mayan predictions. Some scientists note that it is in the year 2012 that the Sun will emit intense solar activity that could have cataclysmic outcomes for the earth.

Could it be that indeed both a new consciousness and catastrophic event will be the legacy of 2012? I would consider that a global catastrophic event would indeed elevate humankinds consciousness. Mankind would be forced to disregard the mundane and pray for the divine.
Maybe it is merely another Y2 media phenomenon, but then again maybe not. Shouldn't we learn what we can and prepare for the possibilities? Isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

Shouldn't we at least educate ourselves? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?
